Educational information only
All content on RiceWater — calculators, articles, tables, and examples — is published for general educational purposes. It is not rice advice and is not a substitute for a qualified professional. We are not rice-safety guidance for storage (bacillus cereus)s, and no client or advisory relationship is created by your use of this Site.
Cooked rice carries Bacillus cereus risk when left at room temperature: cool it quickly, refrigerate within an hour, and reheat thoroughly once. Day-old rice left out is the classic food-poisoning vector — the database's storage notes assume you skip that tradition.
Water ratios assume standard absorption cooking in a lidded pot; rice cookers, Instant Pots, and pilaf methods shift ratios slightly. Brand-age matters too — newer crop rice needs marginally less water.
Accuracy of calculations
We implement well-known, publicly documented formulas (see the methodology section on each calculator page and standard cooking-science practice and origin traditions as applicable). Even correctly implemented formulas produce estimates that depend on your inputs and assumptions. Real-world outcomes vary. Do not rely on a single web tool for a consequential decision.
